If you live in a service area with deregulated electricity and/or natural gas markets, you have the ability to select your own retail energy supplier rather than paying the default utility supply rates. The regulated utility will continue to deliver the energy and is still responsible for the service and maintenance of the existing delivery infrastructure. Selecting a retail energy supplier is purely a financial transaction — there is no difference in the commodity that you are consuming or in the reliability of its delivery.
Use the interactive map below to see if your service area is within a deregulated market.
